Hi! We are Madi and Alex, two sisters and Grand Rapids natives. We are so excited to be following this passion that Christ laid on our hearts years ago.
Combining Madi’s expertise with hair and Alex’s RN degree under the direction of Dr. Manaal Omar, we are thrilled to bring a new and professional salon offering a variety of hair and aesthetic services to Northland Drive.
The Sunday House offers a unique and fresh take on your classic hometown salon.
We cannot wait to give back to our community, and we hope you come along for our journey.
About Madi Calkins,
Hey! First off, I’m so happy you’re here and we get to share our passion with you. My name is Madi and I am a co-owner of The Sunday House Salon and Aesthetics. I have been a stylist for 9 years and I have absolutely loved every second so far. Hair is definitely my passion and favorite form of art.
I specialize in lived in color, blonding, and dimensional color. I’m your color girl!
I have the two cutest boys; Blaine is 6, and Audie is 4. Not to mention the best husband, Jon. They are my world. I enjoy reading fantasy, drinking iced coffee, eating Thai food, and everything artsy.
Having the opportunity to open a business with my best friend/big sister is a dream come true. We are both thrilled to offer a space where everyone feels welcomed, loved, and cherished. It is our hope that we can shine God’s light through this venture all while making our guests feel confidant.
About Alex Couch,
My name is Alex and I am a co-owner of the Sunday House Salon and Aesthetics. I am an RN and I have a bachelor’s of science degree in nursing. I have been working as a nurse for the past 12 years with a majority of my experience in emergency medicine.
Observing my sister spending her days helping her clients to feel more confident inspired a passion within me. I have spent the last few years of my career working towards the goal of combining my medical knowledge with aesthetics as well as working toward the ultimate goal of opening a salon space where I get to work with my best friend and sister everyday!
When I’m not working, you will most likely find me out in my garden. I love being outdoors (in the summer) and I have an obsession with all things flowers and plants. I also enjoy playing with and chasing around my sweet cavachon puppy, Quincie. My favorite hobby of all though is spending all of my time, money, and energy on my two little nephews.
My desire is for every client to feel that they are valued and heard. I can’t wait to get to know you and help you to love even more the skin that you are in!
